There is often much talk in football about the 12th man. Whether that is the fans singing their hearts out in the stands, the referee who appears to be giving everything to the opposition or a rogue beach ball that has bounced on to the pitch and it has yet to be removed, it is said, and this 12th man gives you the advantage.  But it's a strange term to use when the teams are not even utilising the 11 players they have on the pitch.

Kotoko had been phenomenal since the season commenced.  The team is continuously improving day by day because of one unsung hero, the one who has not been noticed by many.

The man that is always overlooked as a footballer, the one position on the pitch where, as kid you did not need any skill or ability, you simply needed to be big. This man is, of course, the goalkeeper.

This time not just any goalkeeper, but the enterprising, go-getter, catalyst and the impetus young chap known as Felix Van Annan.

He has played Six (6) league matches so far, two (2) goals conceded, four (4) clean sheets.

His diminutive stature is not to his disadvantage at all. His agility, reflections, composure, calmness, tranquility, placidity and inexcitability in poles are extremely overwhelming and amazing.

If there is a keeper that should be monitored, make no mistake to monitor this amazing and wondrous chap, Felix Van Annan.

When the season was about to start ,few pundits thought that Felix Van Annan will get the opportunity to keep the poles  of Asante Kotoko, looking critically at what transpired last season and with the experience goalkeeper like Ernest Sowah.

But through hard work, perseverance, never give up attitude and spirit of tenacity, he has taken control over the goal keeping role of Asante Kotoko and he is doing fantastically terrific.

He is undoubtedly, the best keeper in Ghana by far and looking at our black stars keeper's performance, it is high time a chance should be given to Felix Van Annan to prove his width.

His technical acumen in poles is highly unquestionable. If a coach is using Felix Van Annan, he is sure of defending, building attacks and keeping the ball. Even though I have not watched many world class goalkeepers, the few once I have watched brings the idea that Felix Van Annan is epitome of a great goalkeeper.

I saw him playing on loan for West Africa Football Academy and he was fantastically terrific in poles. He continued to Kotoko last season but unfortunately for him, injuries caused him in the league.

So far, he has started all the six matches, conceding two goals. This is a goalkeeper that I have seen greatness in him.  Kotoko's game against Brekum Chelsea was one of the fearest encounter but he stood strong, rugged and unshakable in the poles to prevent Chelsea’s lads to score. The point blank saves on the day was simply magnificent.

Against Ashante Gold SC, was one of the best games he has performed very well so far this season. He put his feet on the ground so well to prevent all the punch from Ashanti Gold players and if today, Asante Kotoko SC is on the 2nd position of the league log then special acknowledgment should be accorded to Felix Van Annan.

Former goalkeeper of Burkina Faso, Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak etc., and Soulama Abdullai said "Felix Van Annan will take Kotoko to places and the signals has began to show. For Kotoko to win this season's league, it is a palpable truth that it is incumbent on Felix Van Annan.

If Bayern Munich and Germany have Manuel Neuer, If Manchester United and Spain have David De Gea, then Kotoko and Black stars have Felix Annan to help us win laurels for club and country. I'm overly excited to have seen this young goalkeeper knocking the doors of Black stars because since the days of Richard Kingston, Ghana has not gotten a reliable pair of hands.

Kevin Keegan said "Goalkeepers aren't born today until they're in their late twenties or thirties”. If this is anything to go by then the full potential of Felix Van Annan is yet to be seen considering his age.

Let us give him the chance to exhibit his God given talent.
