Prof. Francis Dodoo, Incumbent GOC Prez and Ben Nunoo Mensah, GOC Prez contestant

The Electoral Commission of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has received a confirmed list of 63 delegates to vote in the general elections scheduled for March 15 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The delegates comprising two delegations each from the 23 Olympic sports federations, 15 from the non-Olympic sport and federations affiliated to the GOC, with two representatives of the Athletes Commission, will elect a new president and 11 other officers to the various positions which make up the Executive Board of the GOC.

Nominations were opened by the GOC on February 21 and closed on March 7, and at the close of nominations, the applications submitted point to a close election as all the incumbents seeking re-elections will be strongly challenged, in an election which has been surrounded by controversies in the buildup.

Incumbent president, Professor Francis Dodoo, will face a keen contest from the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) president, Ben Nunoo Mensah in a two-horse race.

The 1st vice president role will see Paul Atchoe of the Ghana Vollewball Federation (GVF) battling it out with incumbent Deborah Cubagee with Michael Nunoo and Emmanuel Gidisu Tetteh to lock horns for the 2nd vice president role.

Evans Yeboah and George Lamptey will engage eachother for the 3rd vice president post and Richard Akpokavie must beat Mohammed Sahnoon to maintain his Secretary General position.

In the other posts, the Assistant Secretary General role will see Joseph Mingle attempt to unseat Richmond Quarcoo, Federick Lartey Otu of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) to compete with Christopher Essifie for the Treasurer post while Kenneth Arthur, Theophilus Wilson Edzie and Bernard Quartey will be up for the Deputy Treasurer position.
