Cracks are certain to emerge within the ranks of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is set for another spell in opposition, fresh from its electoral defeat on Wednesday December 7, political scientist Dr Richard Amoako Baah has predicted.

The party’s candidate and incumbent President John Mahama failed to secure the mandate of Ghanaians for a second four-year term, losing out to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 53.85 per cent of votes to 44.40 per cent for John Mahama.

The leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has served notice his party will offer “positive opposition” to the incoming New Patriotic Party administration.

“We have come to stay. We will consolidate, get stronger and become a better competitor. President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo has no time to conduct a witch-hunt in the Mahama-led government when he takes over.

According to him, although he will wage war on corruption, he will only do that in accordance with the law.

Akufo-Addo made the statement in a letter addressed to former President Jerry John Rawlings who had admonished him to pursue “an anti-corruption drive.”
