The Vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has touted his government's achievement of breathing life to the ailing economy that was handed over to them by the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

According to him, instead of allowing the public purse to be drained by ruthless officials the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo team was rather plugging the holes that would facilitate any loot.

Speaking at a special town hall meeting that was put together by the multimedia group, Joy FM, the renowned economist enumerated programs the NPP had put in place including a system where every government project or contract would be given special codes so as to gauge the specific amounts allocated for its completion.

This, he intimated would do away with officials having to pay double monies for same contract that is being executed.

EDUCATION:

According to him, to ensure the modern day public school teachers adapt to improved ways of impacting knowledge, 14,000 of trained teachers would undergo special information and communication technology (ICT) programme.

This, he stressed would ensure effective teaching by these first group as the government was resolved to bringing quality in the kind of education given to public school pupils.

The Vice-President intimated the readiness of the free senior high school policy, indicating the first batch of beneficiaries would enroll in September.

Senior High School Education, he observed should never become the preserve of the privileged in the society but a system that is aimed to giving all Ghanaian pupils the opportunity to continue their studies at the senior level.

AGRICULTURE:

To ensure a sustained economy where people are properly fed to contribute their quota to both human and national development, Dr Bawumia explained plans to implement the policy termed planting for food and jobs.

Under this program, about 2million farmers across the country would be encouraged to cultivate on a larger scale.

This, he said would include the provision of high yielding seedlings, the provision of proper and adequate extension services to farmers wherever they are located.

And as a sign of giving more incentives to the Ghanaian farmer, the Vice-President pointed to the drastic reduction of fertilizers on the market as sign of government's determination.

LAW AND ORDER:

Answering questions later on the creeping lawlessness as perpetrated by some groups aligned to the NPP, Dr Bawumia reiterated the stance by the president to allow the law to take its course in dealing with crime and all other forms of violence.

According to him, modern societies are built upon the enforcement of law and order and indicated the determination of the NPP government to ensure the rule of law works no matter who was involved in its perpetration.

The Vice-President stressed that rather than narrowing crime and hate language to personalities or people in high positions the approach should be to allow the law agencies and the police deal with same issues when they arise.

According to him, there should be no singling out but a concerted effort to punishing crime no matter whoever commits same.
