Mr Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, the Managing Director of the State Housing Company

The management of the State Housing Company Limited (SHC) is revamping the company to turn it into a more viable and robust entity capable of developing expanded and improved housing projects.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Managing Director (MD) of the SHC, Mr Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, said as part of the refurbishment the company’s construction sector was to be revived into a profit-making body with the ability to produce adequate and affordable housing for Ghanaians.

He said the company was currently in talks with some financial institutions and private individuals to work out a partnership for the construction of affordable houses.

The company is presently engaged in the construction of houses for the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Health Service.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES:

Mr Appiah said when the construction sector of the company was fully refurbished, the company would earn more revenue from contracts it would undertake and, as such, wean the company off its reliance on income from estate management and renewal of leases.

He said the company had also adopted new technologies to facilitate its activities, including making the processes of housing deliveries easier and faster.

According to Mr Appiah, SHC had also established a marketing team to promote the company and the houses it constructed.

He said Ghanaians should expect a world-class performance from the company when its revamping exercise was completed, as the company was determined to provide affordable housing for low and middle-income earners.

To ensure real affordable housing for Ghanaians, he said, the company would take into consideration the income and specifics of its clients before putting up the houses.

ENCROACHMENT:

Touching on encroachment on government lands, Mr Appiah said, persons and companies who had encroached on parcels of land belonging to the company had been served notice to vacate the lands in question.

He indicated that the company had embarked on a nationwide exercise to develop lands and estates belonging to the company, adding that all encroachers would be driven from properties belonging to the company.

He said the SHC would use all legal means available to it, including demolition exercises, to reclaim lands belonging to the company.
