IBM ASSURES GHANA OF COMMITMENT TO CLOUD, DIGITAL DRIVE. PRESIDENT CALL FOR TECHNOLOGY UTILISATION

IBM, a leading global technology service provider, has said that Ghana’s digital transformation agenda will benefit from the deliberate adoption and use of cloud computing, cognitive systems, analytics and block chain technology solutions.
“Ghana’s economic development is a key priority for IBM, and by adopting these advanced technology systems, services and solutions, the nation’s transformation journey will be on the fast track,” the Country General Manager, IBM Ghana, Ms Kyerematen-Jimoh, said.
“IBM is currently developing long-lasting, comprehensive and innovative solutions for its customers and pioneering digital transformation in Ghana and across Africa,” she added.
This reassuring comment of commitment to strategic partnerships and technical support for the country was made by the IBM Ghana boss just after a recent courtesy visit to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Ghana).
While receiving the AmCham Ghana delegation, President Akufo-Addo renewed his clarion call for increased technology adoption and utilisation across public and private sector entities nationwide.
He said he was keen to see Ghanaian firms begin to leverage technology for growth emphasising the point that technology was an undeniably necessary tool for revamping the social and economic fabric of the nation.
Speaking with the Daily Graphic, Ms Kyerematen-Jimoh said, “Increasingly, technology innovation will be at the heart of strategy, and Ghanaian companies and government agencies need to consistently reappraise their investment priorities with a view to ensuring that technology is at the core of their growth plans.”
Indeed, IT industry analysts say IBM, working with other firms, continues to provide strong business management and technology solutions for the technology industry in the West African sub-region, whils promoting innovation and collaboration within Ghana’s budding technology and academic communities.
In recent times, IBM has invested heavily in the local ICT ecosystem, supporting government departments, tertiary institutions and start-ups with the much-needed equipment, computing know-how, business and project management skills training.
Last month, the company announced its latest pan-African skills development initiative, “IBM Digital - Nation Africa”, which will provide a cloud-based learning platform designed to deliver free skills development programmes for up to 25 million African youths over five years, enabling digital competence and nurturing innovation across Africa.
“IBM Digital - Nation Africa is a commitment of $70 million to build the much-needed digital, cloud and cognitive IT skills to help support a 21st century workforce in Africa,” Ms Kyerematen-Jimoh stated.
Ghana’s association with IBM goes back more than four decades. A new Ghana head office for IBM was opened in 2010 to support the development of IT infrastructure and the economy of Ghana. The leading global technology firm currently supports key sectors of the Ghanaian economy, with clients in the academia, financial services, telecommunications, petroleum and government sectors.
IBM is a leading member of the industry association which promotes trade and investment activities between Ghana and the United States of America.
